Miss Marshall's class

Miss Marshall's class at Balfour County Primary School in 1951 - click on image to open a large version
From the personal collection of Anthony Beeson

My brothers Hugh and Paul Beeson, who were twins and then eight years old, had joined the school the previous year when we had moved from Hampshire and back to my father’s hometown.

Hugh Beeson, who died in 1994, is the first child on the left in the second row. Paul, who is still alive and lives in Kent, is third from the right in the front row.

Both later went to Fawcett School, and then Hugh to the new Westlain Grammar and Paul to Dorothy Stringer Secondary Modern.

  • I was there 1968, does anyone remember Mrs Bristow who went on to Patcham Fawcett?

  • I have the self same picture and am in the top row 6 from the left. I remember the Beeson twins very well. I suppose at a push I could remember about 12 of the others. It’s always been a regret that I didn’t do it at the time, something I got my children and grandchildren to do. It’s the only photo I have of my primary days. A sobering thought those in the photo who are still with us will be over 80!
