Do you remember the café?

Kemp Street 1974?

By Jennifer Drury

Trawling the collection

As you can see I have been trawling the museum photograph collection again.

I am led to believe this is Kemp Street - but I have no way of knowing if that is correct. The information in the museum albums have been known to be wrong in the past.

But of course I know that my well-informed MyBHers will put me right.

So - is it Kemp Street - and is it 1974? I am relying on you!

Looks earlier than 1974.

That tallies with my 1974 Kelly's Directory, Jennifer. At No 30 (as the photo indicates on the frontage) Kemp Street was Stanley G Duplock, refreshment rooms.

Kelly's 1974 shows 'Stanley G.Duplock, refreshment rooms at 30 Kemp St. It looks like '30' is on the fascia board. It is the only café listed. In the image there is another shop window a few doors down, this would be 'Magpie House, S.J.Mainstone, antique dealers'

It is Kemp Street, where Stanley Duplock has Refreshment Rooms at no 30. 1974 would be consistent with the closure of Ponsford's Hairdresser's shop next door (shown to the left).
