Neighbours were fantastic
I first lived in a prefab at 6 Wiston Path and then on to 14 Findon Road. All the neighbours were fantastic in times of need, always someone willing to help. Along with my twin brother Bob, and brother Jeff, I went to all the Whitehawk schools. I definitely remember the headmaster Mr Scaines. I got six of the best the very first morning of the senior school, just for running through the corridor.

Many fond memories
I used to go the chip shop on Manor Hill every day. At the time it was owned by Mr Darrent. Boy! were they great chips – I can almost smell them now. I played on the green outside the Boy’s Club in the winter months and at East Brighton for cricket in the summer. They were fabulous days. I remember Black Rock Swimming pool – did it ever rain? I remember the Broadway Cafe, Brighton Races, the German dentist, PC George, St Cuthman’s and many other things that bring back so many fond memories.
Football in the ‘glory years’
One year I sang many a solo at Christmas Midnight Mass at St Cuthman’s and this was a result of my mum having a soft spot for the vicar. I also played football for Whitehawk Boys Club through their ‘Glory years’ when we won league and cup medals while climbing the football leagues. Probably the best bunch of guys you would ever wish to meet, honest, hard working and true friends. These were very happy days, never to be forgotten.
