A happy time

I was born in 1951, and my family are my Mum and Dad, Harry and Grace Raynsford; my sister Val who is twelve years older; my sister Barb who is ten years older, and my brother Barry who is four years older. It was a very happy family and my Mum and Dad were wonderful parents. I went to Carden Hill Infants’ School; Carden Hill Juniors’ School, and in 1964, I went to Dorothy Stringer School. Growing up in Hollingbury was a very happy time for me.

Heaven in summer

Hollingbury was heaven on earth in the summer but in the winter it was the complete opposite, especially when the snow came. I remember walking up and down Carden Hill in the snow, to and from school, that was really tough. The worst snowfall I can recall was in 1965 or 1966. I was very shy as a youngster  I never used to go out I just used to play my music and watch television. My best friend in my schooldays was Kenneth Baverstock. He lived in Carden Avenue and went to Carden Hill School with me. Kenneth lived with his Mum and Dad who was a  policeman, and  they lived in the police house.
