Infant class

These two photos were taken at St Joseph’s School, Davey Drive. I went there before Fitzherbert.School.

I wonder if anyone can spot me, or recognise any other child in the class. I am in the bottom photo at St Joseph’s.

If you recognise yourself or anyone else, please post a comment below.

  • I went to St. John the Baptist in 1948 at the age of five. My first teacher was Sister Carmella who is the sister in the photo. Of all the nuns that taught me as a young child, she was the most kind of them all. Today some of the nuns would be arrested for their cruelty, really spiteful and nasty seemed to be their hobby. But sister Carmella was a beautiful minded nun who never even raised her voice. Even in later life when I saw her she always remembered my name. When she retired at St. Georges Retreat I was about to go and see her but she had passed away. I am not a religious person by any stretch of the imagination but I would hope that she is in a peaceful place somewhere for all the kindness she showed us kids just after the war.
