Mile Oak Revisited
Reunion Day: Sunday July 25th 2010
By Mary Smith
On Sunday 25th July another reunion for the children, born between 1930 and 1950 and who grew up in Mile Oak in the 30s, 40s and 50s, was held at Mile Oak Farm. A BBQ was held and around 100 people with their families turned up. Luckily the weather held out and was quite warm. Robin Sheldon, husband of old Mile Oaker, Jean Curcher took many photos for us. A lot of the people who came were ones who came before but we were very pleased to welcome quite a few whom we hadn’t managed to catch up with last time. If there are any out there reading this we would love to hear from you on info@mileoakrevisited.co.uk
A lot of talking and catching up
People started arriving just after 11am and food was ready by noon. A lot of talking and catching up was done. After we had eaten Dave Cross, the farmer and also an old Mile Oaker, took us all on trailer rides across the Downs. All getting a bit older now we have difficulty walking too far up the Downs so this was brilliant as we went right up to the old Roman fort on top of Thunderbarrow Hill. From here we had a brilliant view right across the Downs and out to sea. If it is going to rain it is possible to see the Isle of Wight but luckily for us the sun was out and therefore we couldn’t see it although we would have liked to.
A welcome cuppa and then home
After about three quarters of an hour we arrived back at the farm to a welcome cup of tea in the farm's tea room where they now do cream teas and cakes. We then all made our way home after a very enjoyable day
