Gloucester Road
52 & 53 poulter and pork butcher
By Elizabeth Wickstead
My grandfather
The photograph here is of No 52 & 53 Gloucester Road Brighton and shows my grandfather George Robert Powell, who was a provision merchant, standing on the right .
Trading from 1885-1905
The store was owned by George Washington Ashdown as a poulter and pork butcher from 1885 to 1905 and after that date was taken over by Southern Counties Daries. George Washington Ashdown was my grandfather's brother-in-law, as he was married to Rosina Powell.
