Over £1000,00 raised

The Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Bill Randall and the Mayoress Mrs Heather Randall attended the final of ‘The Lido’s Got Talent’ competition held in Saltdean Lido this week. The finalists, aged 9-17 years old, staged a two and a half hour show which raised over £1000,00 for ‘Children in Need’, and several hundred pounds more for local children’s’ charities.

Quality and variety

The quality and variety on the show, featuring singers, songwriters, dancers, musicians, rap artists and street dancers was much appreciated by the packed audience in the hall. The judging was performed by a panel of experienced professionals, who clearly had a very difficult job in making a decision on the winners. Eventually the grand prize went to the eighteen piece modern choir from the Woodingdean based ‘Brighton School of Singing’. Second place went to fourteen year old street dancer Callum Saunders from Saltdean, with singer Mia Williams-Watson being placed third.

I was priveleged to be at the Lido on Saturday night, primarily to watch my own daughter performing I will admit. I was amazed at the quality of the youngsters performing from a guitar playing girl who was singing her own songs to street dancers, a real showcase of talent, much better than watching Britain's got talent. Well done to all, especially the organisers.

This show did have some talent in it and I liked the way the kids were given the tools they needed to perform - nice staging, proper sound and lighting and I suspect experienced advice from somewhere. This should be the template for kids talent shows. Eight quid wasn't cheap to get in but well worth it I thought.

A thoroughly entertaining and well organised show. The quality of the talent and the enthusiasm of these kids was extraordinary. We had a great evening out - and all for a good cause.
