Construction work goes well

As many of you will know, work on the The Level Restoration Project, made possible by a £2.2 million Lottery grant is continuing apace. Apparently the work is going well, and we will not have to wait too long until this well-loved recreational space will be open for residents and visitors alike to enjoy.

Grand community celebration

Aside from the construction work, The Parks Project Team have been working hard, with help from residents, to chronicle the relationship people have with The Level which will then illustrate its rich social history. They are planning a grand community celebration opening event for Saturday 14 September 2013 when there will be an exhibition of their work.

WWII photographs needed

What they especially need for the exhibition are photographs of The Level from the WWII period. Do you have any photographs you can share? If you have and are willing to help, your photographs will be scanned and returned to you safe and sound.   • In 1939 I was attending St Martin’s junior school. I remember these shelters well, lots of fun and games in them. I don’t think we realized the seriousness of them.
