Remembering the fallen
I am a member of Brighton Unitarian Church and have been researching the men whose names appear on a plaque beneath a stained glass window in the church. The window is dedicated to those who served and/or died in World War 1, with particular attention to the five who are known to have died while serving.
We usually mention these men at our Remembrance Service each year; however, as this year marks 100 years since the end of WW1, it is our intention to say a little more about the five, hence the research. We thought it might be a nice idea to try to trace descendants of the men.

You could try the Army Records Office and make a note of all details to shorten the search. Name, Rank (if known) and Unit.
There is also the Navy Records which are here in the National Archives.

As for the Royal Sussex Regiment, I think their records are still local. There is also The Keep at Sussex University which you can find online to register, then when you visit take ID to complete the membership. It is located on Google Maps on the right side of the road heading out of Brighton towards Falmer, just follow the signs and when you reach the Uni turn off.
