Joyce has been attending the over Bevendean BECCA Fifty-Plus Club for approximately ten years. She says she joined the club:

“Simply because there is nothing else to do. Its a very good social life for people who live on their own. I mean I have been a widow for 19 years. I used to go swimming but that’s sort of out of the area. This was something on the spot that we could come and do. It’s just a Friday meeting, we do have a Christmas lunch and we are in the Brighton Bowls League. I have played in the bowls team for 6 years.

I think the social side of it is the most important part because it gets people out. It’s not all that far to come; you can walk here, you don’t have to get a bus or anything and it makes people come out. I mean if they have got somewhere to go then they’ll go.”
