A family day out

What a pleasure it is to sit on the smooth pebbles of Brighton beach, watching the kids running in and out of the emerald green sea as the sun sets, listening to the strains of ‘Build Me up Buttercup’ coming from the pier.

The Aquarium
I can thoroughly recommend a family day out in Brighton. The aquarium has everything to delight the young – sharks, sting rays, giant crabs and a 53-year-old giant turtle called Lulu. You can purchase little pots of dead fish at feeding time and the huge carp will bounce out of the water and splash you. There are also opportunities for braver children to hold the crabs.

Volks railway
The train ride along the sea front is a pleasure on a summer day and you can stop half way at a state-of-the-art kiddies play park – all asymmetric climbing frames, brightly coloured soft surfaces and little fountains for the children to run through.

The Lanes
Wander through the Lanes and the children can have their portrait drawn or those brightly coloured extensions woven into their hair. The funfair on the pier is also excellent although I did think that, having paid £7.50 to go down the water slide, another £7.50 to get a photo of the ride is excessive. Take your camera and get your own photo for a fraction of the price.

And a final word – chips! I have never tasted such golden, crispy, non-greasy chips as those in Brighton. £1.00 for a little tray and you can sit and eat them on the beach.

Enjoy yourself!
