Photo:"This prize winning shot is of the landing stage at the Palace Pier. At the far end, this was the stage used by the paddle steamer Waverley plying between Isle of Wight, Eastbourne and Brighton. It was also used by speedboats giving trips, and anglers catching more fish than today's anglers can dream about! Sadly this is another victim of cost cutting and/or neglect by those responsible for the maintenance of the pier, and the landing stage no longer exists."
Photo:"Taken in 1971, this photo shows the Palace Pier looking west through the ornate railings in late evening."

Photo:Boy and girl in boat in front of Palace Pier. Given the state of construction of the Pier, it looks as if this photo was taken in Victorian times.
