An enthralling week

I arrived in Brighton on a bright, Saturday morning on the last day of June in 2003. 7.30am and it was very, very quiet. I couldn’t get into my B&B at that time so I spent the next three hours wandering the city.

The place was humming
By 10.00 am the place was humming. The temperature had reached 25 celcius and I couldn’t believe how many people had materialised from apparently nowhere. I learnt that these were the Londoners of course, down for a day at the beach. It really was an amazing sight.

I walked everywhere at first
That began an enthralling week by the seaside. I walked everywhere. And when my feet gave up I hired a scooter and toured the coastline from Worthing to Eastbourne, a warm breeze and a trail of traffic behind me.

Fond memories
And of course I came back. A few months later, with a friend who lives in London. She had never been to Brighton, so I grabbed her hand and delighted in showing her the sites.  Now I’m back home, 12,000 miles from Brighton, with fond memories and looking forward to another time when I get to visit again.
