The Clifton Gardens were laid out when Clifton Terrace was built in 1847. They were, and still are, for the exclusive use of residents of this street, but were once the site of the Clifton Windmill, which was built around 1810-1820s and was moved in 1837 to Windmill Street in the Albion Hill area.

Does anyone know anything about the graveyard that is on the other side of the road from Clifton Terrace? I used to play there as a child and remember that it had a certain grim fascination for me. I have not been able to find anything about it on this site and wonder whether it is independent or an extension of the graveyard of St Nicholas?
