Brighton Pier

Dirty weekends
By Philip Dunn, artist

"This is a painting I did of Palace Pier (from Marine Parade). It shows the theatre at the end, which was sadly removed in 1986 and replaced with a dome. It's called 'Dirty Weekend' because I like double entendres. Some people think the man looks like Dennis Thatcher. I make no comment whatsoever."

Comments:

I love this painting. It sums up the Brighton I was born and grew up in. Holidaymakers only see (hopefully!) the sunny side of life down here, but us true Brightonians know the wet and windy side even better. And yes, I think he looks like Dennis Thatcher too.

I now live in the States and my brother sent this print to me just so I wouldn't forget the 'lovely weather'!
