The Martlets Hospice opened in Hove April 1st 1997 and cares for people in Brighton and Hove and the surrounding area including Lewes, Ringmer, Peacehaven and Newhaven. It was formed by the merger of the Tarner Home, Coppercliffe Hospice and Macmillian Day Hospice and provides medical and nursing care for adults with terminal and life limiting illnesses. The Hospice also provides counselling and bereavement support to the families and friends of people in its care, and practical support to help people sort out their financial and family affairs.

The services of the hospice are provided free to local people on the basis of medical need. With only some of the funding coming from the NHS, the Hospice must raise just under £3 million every year from charitable activities - that's more than £7,000 per day. Most of this money is raised from the local community.

There are many ways that you and your community can support the Martlets Hospice such as being a volunteer, organising a fundraising event, or playing the Hospice lottery.
