  • Does anyone know what happened to the Gaskin family? They used to live in the railway cottage at the bottom of Mill Hill in Patcham. I went to school with Angela Gaskin when we attended St Mary’s Cottesmore. Cars used to speed down the hill and many times Angela and her famly had to deal with accidents – vehicles crashing into the tunnel at the bottom of Mill Hill. It was well known as an accident blackspot! My name then was Una Mitchell.

  • I don’t know about the Gaskins, but when I was in my early teens, I used to stand on the Hove side of the tunnel entrance and signal cars through when they could not see round the bend. Although strictly illegal, I got many a friendly wave from drivers and mouthed thank-yous. Happy days. John Snelling

  • The photo shows two of my sisters riding their ponies near the Windmill – probably around 1960.

  • I recall that one of the Gaskin family was at school with me from 1955 to 1959 at Brighton Secondary Technical School, Hanover Terrace, now demolished and replaced with housing.
