Old Police Cells Museum

Introduction

The Old Police Cells museum is dedicated to charting the history of policing in Brighton from the first days of the force in 1812. It is housed in the basement of the Town Hall, where the old police cells used to be. This is an interesting and free glimpse into the past which is well worth a visit.

Access is only by pre-booked guided tours. These run throughout the summer on Saturdays and daily during May as part of Brighton Festival Fringe.

Visit the Old Police Cells museum website for details about arranging a visit, plus a collection of old photos showing the work of the Sussex police forces.
