Streets of Brighton, 1994-present

Zap have long been involved in the promoting and enabling of street art festivals. In 1998 'National Street Arts Festival' was created by Zap, bringing together and helping to fund street festivals all over the country.

Streets of Brighton is one of the biggest and most vibrant celebrations of all street festivals in the UK and is also a key component of the Brighton Festival programme. Streets of Brighton 2006 brought a mixture of sublime and surreal contemporary theatre, slapstick, carnival and circus to spaces across the city for its twelfth year running. Highlights this year were 'Groupe F' pyrotechnic display and 'Souterrain' landscape theatre.

I remember being taken every Christmas to the Zap fun-fair or market down the Old Steine.  This was not up at The Level where the visiting circuses and funfairs go, but on the green nearer the sea (the name escapes me). However, I haven't seen this for years - is it still happening - possibly elsewhere?

How Zap have organised this years street festival is a disgrace and a shame. I have never seen so many disgruntled people walking about trying to find something going on. And when they did, they couldn't get near because of the sheer mass of people, unlike last year when there was activity going on all around. Their new policy will destroy this event, revert back to last years style or kill it. Zap you should be ashamed of yourselves.
