Dorset Buildings

Photographed c1950s

This is a photographic print of Dorset Buildings, Brighton. It is a view north towards Boss's Gardens. Numerous terraced houses can be seen on the right hand side of the street.

This photograph was commissioned by the Environmental Health department of Brighton Borough Council. It formed part of a visual record of areas considered for slum clearance. Dorset Buildings ran between Carlton Hill and Edward Street. It was acquired by the Council under a Compulsory Purchase Order in 1956. The street was demolished in about 1960. The site was later used for Amex House, which opened in 1977.
