St John's Place

This is a photographic print of St John's Place, Brighton. It is a view looking north from Carlton Hill. Caroline Gower's confectionary store is visible on the right of the photograph. An advertising space belonging to Charman Davey is visible on the side of the building in the centre of the photograph.
This photograph was commissioned by the Environmental Health department of Brighton Borough Council. It formed part of a visual record of areas considered for slum clearance. St John's Place was demolished in the late 1930s.
