Members of the Sussex & Australian cricket teams were the guests of honour at a gala performance of “Ice Time” given at the Sports Stadium in 1938. Mr John Caruana the General Manager at the SS Brighton is seen greeting Mr Charles McCartney former Australian cricket captain. Mr A J Holmes the Sussex captain was also present. Others guests included Mr G S Godfree, Chairman of the Sussex Cricket Club and Mr W L Knowles, the secretary.
They were given a rousing reception by a crowd of nearly three thousand people which included many cricket enthusiasts and many of the regular ice show patrons who packed the Stadium.The show produced by Claude Langdon and Miss Eve Bradford was an instant success and was seen by over 200,000 people in its 14 week run. Totalling 150 performances the show finally finished in September of 1938 to make way for the start of the “Tigers” ice hockey season in October.
