This is my father's class photo at Hanover Terrace School, which he attended from September 1917 to March 1923. His name was George Carrington and he is in the second row from the back, 5th from the right.

In front of the children is a board with 'H. T. B. 7' chalked on it. H. T. is probably Hanover Terrace. I don't know what the 'B' stands for, but the '7' could signify the class for seven year olds.

My father was born in September 1913. He looks about 6 or 7 here, which dates the photo to about 1920.

The schools in those days usually had two classes of level, an "A" and a "B" class so the "B" probably meant it was a "B" stream class, 7 year age group. I know that more than one pupil from a "B" class rapidly gained promotion or flying status in the armed services during WWII - so much for out education system!
