  • Am wondering where Sun Street was. Coghlans, Camerons and Nicholls are my ancestors. Any relatives out there?

  • Sun Street ran from 10/11 Edward Street to Carlton Hill. The Edward Street end had The Poor Dog Tray on one corner and The Rising Sun on the other.

  • Alan, wasn’t the pub called The Dog Tray? I remember well the poem from which the name was probably taken: On the green banks of Shannon, when Sheila was nigh………………………. and wherever I went was my poor dog Tray.

  • That’s a really great insight, Joe. Thank you. I remember The Dog Tray and often wondered about its name.

  • If you put ‘Dog Tray’ up in the search box (top right this page) there is a lot of info on it. There was much debate about the pub and its name many years ago on this site.
