Photo:This photographic print was made by the Borough Surveyor's department. It is a view of New Road, Brighton, looking north from within Theatre Royal colonnade. This colonnade was originally built in 1806-7. The section visible in the photograph was reconstructed along with the front of the Theatre Royal in 1894. For this reason, this section of the colonnade is substantially higher than that at the southern end of the street.
