Jonathan Harmer terracotta tomb ornaments

Terracotta bas-relief tombstone ornaments created by stonemason and sculptor Jonathan Harmer (1762 – 1849) provided attractive features for those unable to afford expensive headstones, and a number of examples of his work can be found in churchyards around his native Heathfield.  This piece, in St Nicholas Churchyard is the only know Harmer terracotta in Brighton and can be found close to the boundary with the former ice rink.
