Brighton and Hove People's Day

Brighton and Hove's People's Day is a celebration of diversity in our city, and an acknowledgment of the many different types of peoples that combine to make it great.  The event, which was held at Hove Town Hall was offically opened by Daniel Ibekwe, Chair of the Racial Harassment Forum and The Mayor, Councillor Garry Peltzer Dunn.

Visitors were entertained by an afternoon of music, dance, film, delicious international food, photography exhibitions, speakers, choirs and supervised children's activities. The photograph here shows just one of the terrific posters produced by visiting children on the subject of racism and racial abuse.

Drawing on the breadth of Brighton and Hove's communities and cultures, there was an international line-up of artists and local talents.  Representatives were also present from the Black and Ethnic Minority communities, Faith communities, Youth organisations, Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender groups and many different generations were involved. Brighton and Hove's People's Day is part of an ongoing effort to build strong and positive relations between people of all backgrounds.

The vision for the future is to promote a shared vision and sense of belonging, to embrace the different communities and build bridges between them.  Here at My Brighton and Hove we would sincerely welcome contributions from any and all of the groups mentioned above.  After all - that is why our website is called My Brighton and Hove.
