The Yellow Pages tell us that The Record Box was around for a good number of years but my recollection is of a shop with fairly limited and static stock so I did not visit it very often.

24a no longer seems to exist and seems to have been subsumed by the two shops in the picture.

Wasn’t the shop next door with the zebra camouflage a record shop at one time? There was a little shop just the other side of the junction with Sydney Street/Kensington Street in the early 80s, which I think sold only CDs. Suspect this moved round into Sydney Street just up from The Office? Did the owner organise records fairs at The Brighton Centre? The little shop then sold ‘Yesterday's Bread’.

I bought one of my first records at the record box, it was Singing the Blues by Tommy Steele, January 1957, I was 14, I had to keep calling back on my bike because it was always out of stock, I eventually got it and I played to death on our radiogram. I had a record shop closer to where I lived, Edwards in London Road but this one was next to Brighton Station and seemed to get any stock first off the train.
