Frank Brotherhood moved in 1929 from High Brooms, near Tunbridge Wells to 6, Shelldale Road in Portslade. He moved in order to take up a job offer with Mr Pearson, who was opening a butcher's shop at 94, Boundary Road, Portslade. Mr Pearson also rented Frank Brotherhood the house in Shelldale Road, which was part of a block of houses owned by Pearson. The remainder of Shelldale Road was council housing.

We hope to open the week after that

"Dear Frank
"I can now confirm the date I gave for your moving, that is - Monday Sept 16. Then if all works well, we hope to open the week after that. I am enclosing the front door key of your house. Would you just please send me a P.C. so that I know you have got it all right.  On the Monday that you move, perhaps we shall not be definitely moved into our place, but you will find me about there somewhere..."
