Postcards of Peter Booth, 1907-1918

Peter Booth is a collector of postcards of Brighton and Hove.  He allowed the Letter in the Attic project to scan a selection of cards, picking out the cards which had the most interesting writing on the back.  22 cards were selected, of which two are shown here. The first of the two cards above shows the home of Brighton inventor Magnus Volk.

Arrival of Mayor at opening of St Anne’s Well Gardens, Empire Day 1908

The postcard immediately above shows the Mayor arriving for the opening of St Ann’s Well Gardens, Hove, on Empire Day 1908. The message on the back of this card is below.

13th July 1908

“My Dear Sister
Many thanks for letter & little B, it is very pretty & I  am wearing it. Can you find your Uncle in this group & it looks like Aunt too…  Goodbye – love from Madge”

  • It should be made clear that Volk’s house was at some stage renumbered from 38 to 128. The present-day 38 shows a completely different property (a number of websites have been ‘taken in’). For the actual house the Volks lived in, with confirmatory plaque, see elsewhere on this site, namely: http://www.mybrightonandhove.org.uk/page_id__8063.aspx
