Beach
Advertising campaign in the 1960s
By Stefan Bremner-Morris
For some reason, Gilbey's Gin decided that an advertising campaign was required along the coast. They hired a large sailing barge, and put their logo on the biggest of the brown sails that adorn those beautiful vessels.
The next problem was to draw attention to it from shore, and in this regard, they hired Sergeant Major Brittain, said to have had the loudest voice in the British army! I can well remember the craft floating back and forth some distance out at sea in the '60s, but I never heard the mighty roar.
Perhaps the wind was in the wrong direction, or the gentleman had succumbed to the product itself! Maybe others did hear him?
