A retired Army Major, who served 28 years in the Corps of Royal Engineers, has been ‘getting on his bike’ to raise money for the non-political charity Help for Heroes. The riding challenge, affectionately dubbed LOOKING ON THE BRIGHTon SIDE, involves Major Robin Alexander cycling from the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME) in Chatham, to Brighton via London before returning to the RSME’s Brompton based barracks.
It is hoped that the sponsored ride will raise a substantial sum for Help the Heroes which supports servicemen and women who have been wounded in action. Since its launch from a tin hut in 2007, the charity has provided vital aid for returning service personnel. Today it does the important work of supporting those who have suffered injuries in recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
While he was in Brighton, Major Alexander took the opportunity to meet the Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Garry Peltzer Dunn to discuss the work of the charity.
