Wartime Memories
By Jo Palache
Did you, or someone you know, work on the Home Front in Brighton and Hove during World War II? Did you, or anyone you know, work locally in one of the hospitals, in transport or canteens? Were you in a restricted occupation or bringing up a family? Did you carry out ARP or fire-watching duties? Were you in one of the locally-based services?
Inclusion in the sound archive
The museum's sound archive holds a collection of recorded interviews with residents of Brighton & Hove and includes many individuals whose experiences reflect the richness of our local history. Following our current exhibition The Land Girls: Cinderellas of the Soil, we would like to ensure that our sound archive also represents the wartime memories of people who worked in other roles in Brighton & Hove during World War II.
Informal interviews
Please help us to ensure that our community sound archive reflects all aspects of wartime Brighton & Hove for future generations. Our interviews are relaxed and informal sound recordings (not video) that are then stored in our archive for future research and education.
If you would be interested in contributing to the project or would like to know more, please phone Jo on 01273 292845 or email jo.palache@brighton-hove.gov.uk.
