My uncle Henry Heath took this picture in the 1950s. I think it precedes the photograph of the Wanderin Cafe, shown in this section, and confirms that there was another cafe before the more modern looking one started trading.
Henry and his wife Queenie lived in Cannon Place where the corner of the Metropole now resides. He drew the ‘Falcon’ strip in the comic Radio Fun for many years. Perhaps the shot was for reference purposes. I’m glad I kept it now, having found your interesting site!

A clue to a more precise date of Stefan’s interesting old photo is surely the parked car which is a Mk 2 Ford Consul first introduced in the UK in March 1956. My guess is the shot was taken after that date? Stefan makes reference to the ‘Did you go to the Wanderin Cafe’ page, obviously both photos were taken around the same time, its hard to say which one predates the other.
