Redesigned website - September 2006

On 21st September 2006, the My Brighton and Hove website was re-launched. The site ran on special software created by two of the volunteers, which made it much, much easier for contributors to add to the site and for their contributions to be edited.

All the 2500 pages on the old site were migrated to the new site – a labour of love that took about 5,000 hours. No content was lost, but all the content was sub-edited and re-categorised. As a result, it became much easier to find your way around the new site, but an effort was made to keep the cross-linking and cross-referencing that made the old site so seductive.

  • The dinner is cold, the wine is unopened. I spend all my time on the new site. Congratulations from Australia!

  • Well done you guys. My Brighton and Hove lives on nice new site. From a Brighton ex-pat who left late 1940s and now living further up the coast. Cheers.

  • Exciting and nostalgic website that pleases me very much. Ex pat of Brighton, now living on the Romney Marsh. I wonder how many people are out there that have not yet come across the site?

  • Many congratulations on your great website. Since discovering it (by accident) it has given me so much pleasure and has rekindled many fond memories of growing up in Brighton in the 1940’s and 50’s.

  • This is an excellent site and one I have enjoyed contributing to. In a similar way to Paul Seiden, it has kept me away from the curried flying fish and rum punch. I showed it to my mother (aged 82) and now she wants to buy a laptop to regularly log on to My Brighton and Hove. From a Brightonian expat now living and working in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, West Indies

  • Praise, where praise is due. You have created a first class website – one which will bring enjoyment to many across the world – me for one! Martin – Brisbane, Australia
