Resident Sam Carroll has done a whole feature on Bevendean area, from the Xmas lights of Norwich Avenue to the beauties of Simmonds dewpond. (We’ve had to put a new pebble on our map). Martin Nimmo has sent us more memories than we can highlight (see the one about Harry Cohen talking about the Marina). Plus, thanks to John Sullivan for tales of a bombing and a flower garden near Black Rock.

Those were the days! When you could swim with dolphins at the old Aquarium….when the population of Aldrington was three-quarters of a person…and when the last trolley-bus left Lewes Road. Plus, resident Neal Ball has published census details showing who was living in Westbourne Street and The Aldrington pub in 1891.

Thanks for the memories! We’ve been sent childhood reminiscences of wartime evacuation, trams, Elm Grove Infants School and Godwin Road, Hangleton. A parking problem in Livingstone Road has sparked off a hunt for lampposts. And we’ve a photo of an old dairy in demolished Russell Street (nearby Churchill Square).

Last week we had a lament for a demolished gasometer, so we’ve researched its history and found an image. We’re also been tracing the history of Hove Town Hall. Plus you can read a resident’s thoughts on a misplaced lamppost and a mass of bluebells in Livingstone Road, Hove. Go on – tell us about your own street!

We’ve had a complaint from the marketing manager of Churchill Square that the ungracious comments in the Architect’s Tour about the old Churchill Square are out of date. Quite right! So, any comments about the new square? Or memories of shopping in days gone by? Let us know.

Apart from personal memories of walking to the beach and games played when children, there has been nothing new since before the Easter break! Where are you? Hanningtons, the famous department store in Brighton, Budgen’s supermarkets and Maples, the furniture store in Tottenham Court Road have a common foundation in Daniel Constable of Horley Mill in Surrey. How about some memories of working or shopping in Hanningtons?

A month on since the last update and still more pages from the Whitehawk computer group at the Whitehawk Inn including a picture of the Inn itself (no beer, just computers on draught!). Our new volunteer, coming from this group – Sue – has been beavering away with her own memories of Whitehawk. We have been nominated for the New Statesman New Media Awards.
