Austins to Brighton: 90th Anniversary

The Austin Seven Owners Club (London) chose Brighton and Hove as the ideal place to stage the 90th anniversary of the Austin Seven motor car.

There were over three hundred entrants for the rally for pre-war Austins whose owners were mainly from the UK, but were also joined by enthusiasts from Germany and the Channel Islands.

Brighton weather gave the visitors a warm and sunny day for their event, and they certainly caused a stir amongst the crowds enjoying their stroll along the promenade.

  • What beautiful historic vehicles are displayed here in these lovely photos. As kids in the 40s and 50s living just a few streets away from where the photos were taken, the seafront was one of our joyful places when events such as this took place as well as the time trials where two cars sped over a set distance with wonderful loud noises coming from the engines. We would spend all day looking at the ‘old crocks’ as we called them when they rolled in from London on their long journey south. Commercial vehicles and buses of all types were on display with their owners always ready for any questions. I am so glad to see one of my old haunts looking not so very different to what it did in my young days. The cars are magnificent.
