The Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Denise Cobb was met today by international best-selling crime author Peter James, at the Brighton and Hove 999 Fun Day on Hove Lawns. The annual Brighton & Hove 999 Fun Day aims to promote the work of the emergency services. It is a child-friendly day which encourages everyone, particularly young people, to think of safety in every aspect of what they do whether it is in the home, at the beach, on the roads, in all areas of their everyday lives.

As well as providing an exciting and activity packed day for visitors, local services hoped to use the day to raise much needed funds. Sussex Police, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, the South East Coast Ambulance Service, HM Coastguard, Seaborne Newfoundland Rescue Dogs, and the RNLI were amongst those taking part. There were arena displays throughout the day giving the opportunity for visitors to meet members of the emergency services, and also get an up-close look at 999 response vehicles.
