Councillor Jonathan Burberry

I was reading the My Brighton and Hove article about Jonathan Burberry and remembered that I have a copy of the 1911 Brighton guide which mentioned his butcher business. The shop, in Carlton Hill was described as”commodious and scrupulously clean”.

In fact, the guide book itself is a celebration of the new king entitled, Brighton and Hove in the Coronation Year of his Majesty King George V.  The article also mentions Burberry’s significance as a local philanthropist who helped the poor of his district. I thought this photo of his shop in Carlton Hill was worth sharing.

If you click to enlarge the image and then put your cursor at the top, it will stay full-screen and make the text easier to read.
