I was reading the My Brighton and Hove article about Jonathan Burberry and remembered that I have a copy of the 1911 Brighton guide which mentioned his butcher business. The shop, in Carlton Hill was described as”commodious and scrupulously clean”.
In fact, the guide book itself is a celebration of the new king entitled, Brighton and Hove in the Coronation Year of his Majesty King George V. The article also mentions Burberry’s significance as a local philanthropist who helped the poor of his district. I thought this photo of his shop in Carlton Hill was worth sharing.

Thank you for posting this article about my great-grandfather, Jonathan Burberry.
Sadly, he died before I was born, so I never had the pleasure of meeting him. Regards, Alan.
