EMT Sharon Holland

This week the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Carol Theobald, presented a very special award to Sharon Holland of Saltdean who is a member of the Sussex Medical Services.  Sharon, who is a qualified emergency medic was driving on the M1 with friends when they witnessed a seven vehicle pile-up.

EMT Sharon Holland was the first medically qualified member of the public on the scene. Her calm collected and clinical approach at the incident was instrumental in the saving of life and the prevention of further injury. She took command of the incident and having made an assessment of those injured contacted the emergency service to mobilize four road ambulances and the air ambulance.

As the photographs here show, Sharon was taken by surprise with her presentation.  She had been asked to attend an ’emergency’ at the Town Hall.  She was totally unprepared to be met by the Mayor and a group of her colleagues, friends and family.  It was certainly a day that Sharon will remember for a long time.
