David Hooker: local chimney sweep

My paternal granddad David Hooker was the local chimney sweep in Hove for many years.  My grandparents were living in Cowper street in 1912 when my Dad also named David was born but they later moved to Sussex Road Hove and Granddad lived there till his demise in 1953.  I was a baby and don’t remember him at all, my paternal grandma died before I was born and is buried in Hove cemetery.

The photo of the children taken about 1924 has my Dad, his brother and maybe some other family members and friends, I don’t know, but if anyone recognises anyone in the photo I’d be glad to hear from them!  The other photo is of my paternal grandparents taken possibly around late 1930’s? and my grandma with my Dad and his brother taken about 1924.

  • My dad was the chimney sweep in Brighton. Must have been late 40s-50s. Fred Burtenshaw is his name, he is 80 years old now.
