I found these photographs recently when clearing out my loft. They were taken by my father in the 1970s.
They show some areas of Whitehawk prior to the major redevelopment and also some of the demolition.
Do you remember?

They look like nice houses; it was a shame they were demolished and not refurbished – I wonder why? Only a guess, and with nothing negative implied to Whitehawk people (I originate from the council estate in Hangleton), was it to improve the image?
I think the houses were knocked down later than the 1970s, I think it was more like 1983/4!
Great pictures, but I found them very sad to look at. They brought back so many memories of my childhood and growing up in Whitehawk. I lived in Fletching Road (south) and I knew every single family that lived in our road. I remember when my dad passed away in 1976, the residents did a collection for flowers. Although I was too young to realise at the time, it was a great community to grow up in and it made me the person I am now. They were good people
I remember Whitehawk fondly – shame it’s all gone. Loved sliding down the race hill on a bit of cardboard – ouch! Happy days.
It is a shame to see old Whitehawk like that. I loved living there back in my youth.
This picture is Twineham Road, with the vicarage in Fletching Road in the left hand corner ofthe photograph. I know as my dad lived at 32 Twineham Road, opposite the photograph.
This photograph is the church section of Twineham Road on the even numbers side, 88’90,92. You can see Wiston Road behind with houses that are still standing today, as I am sitting in the house!
This photo is taken in Lintott Avenue on the corner of Fletching Rd, the old post office.
This picture is Whitehawk School, taken at the very bottom of Lintott Avenue, the building is still there!
The houses in the background are still there in Wiston Road. Pett Close now stands in the foreground.
Lovely time growing up here in the 70s and very sad to see what it was like again.
I think picture number 9 is of Fletching Road where I used to live as a child.
