That’s not a railway, it’s the Devils Dyke Cable Car!

Thank you for sharing this postcard view, Kenneth : it nicely shows the Aerial Cableway of c. 1894 – 1909.

Hello Peter and Sam, Peter Groves (wrote 11/05/2022) “That’s not a railway, it’s the Devils Dyke Cable Car!” and Sam Flowers (11/05/2022)”Thank you for sharing this postcard view, Kenneth : it nicely shows the Aerial Cableway of c. 1894 – 1909.” Of course you are both right! This was the place where people visited at the end of the railway. I regret any confusion which has been caused by sending this picture. Cheers, Ken.

No worries Ken, a nice view anyway!

The railway platform can still be viewed at the farm just down the road from the dyke, on the right by the junction with the Poynings Rd. You can also see the foundation of the fenicular railway, which went down to Poynings, on the northern ridge just down the hill from the DD hotel.
