  • I bet you did not know that when the scaffolding was over, it was the largest freestanding scaffolding in Europe. I know this as I put it up!

  • At one time the parents of the arsonist concerned (name with held) lived in my parents rented accommodation, so my mother said.

  • I was one of a large number of men who carried in the new carpet to be laid after the restoration of the Music Room.

  • In my attempt to keep my comment brief, I failed to mention that the enormous, beautiful carpet that I helped to lay in the Music Room, was laid after a second tragedy befell this splendid room. During a storm in the seventies, scaffolding on the roof dislodged a minaret, which fell through the highly decorative ceiling, causing irreparable damage to the beautiful carpet. Visitors will doubtless agree that the restoration, including the fabulous carpet, is a work of art equal to the original.

  • Well, I INTENDED to keep it brief, but I must add that, as many will know, the storm was in 1987, and the carpet was returned to Ireland for repair.
