First built in 1978
In 1978 the first concrete skate park was built on The Level by architects Murrin & Partners. Since the late 1970’s there was a local crew, The Level Army. The Level Army, and skate shop Pig City made their own clothes, and their own films. Through the 1990s there were regular skate competitions. A lot of good British talent skated there during its heyday.
A good destination park
Between 1996 – 2000 The Level Skate Competitions were filmed. Alan Glass–Filmer made six The Level Skate Videos (1996-2004-5). The Level Skate park was much larger than many sites in London and being surrounded by trees and close to the sea, rather than in a very urban environment made it a very good destination park. In 2004–5, the half pipe and mini ramp were removed.
