  • I am sure my school friend David Wilkie’s mum and dad ran this Pub when we went to Finsbury Road school in about 1947. Does anyone remember him or them?

  • This used to be my local for years when it was run by Dennis and Gwen Alderson. Back in the 1970s it was one of only about five pubs in Brighton where real ale was still available. Den loved his pint of mild, and that was the beer he sold most of, so much in fact that when Whitbreads stopped brewing it he was given permission to sell Gale’s mild instead. Christmas night was always a special time here, with the bar billiard table covered over and bearing a great selection of food prepared by Gwen. Sadly all that atmosphere is now past.

  • I remember Dennis when he ran the Beaufort in Queens Park Road-a really nice man.

  • Sadly, The Albion is now closed. Following the Spread Eagle some years ago. This city cannot afford to keep losing its pubs at this rate!

  • Sadly, The Argus (23/8/21) reported the death of Mick Croucher. He was a barman at the Albion for many years. I believe he also worked at Allen West.
