Established in 1981

Food for Friends on Prince Albert Street is a licenced restaurant which until the summer of 1994 had an annexe in Sydney Street. The restaurant was established in 1981 by Simon Hope. Jeremy Gray joined ranks in 1984 and its fame grew.

Famous vegetarians
Since then, the restaurant has proved so successful that famous vegetarians often call in to enjoy the cooking. In the second week of January, Food for Friends celebrates its opening by offering its customers the original menu from 1981 at the original price.

Growth in vegetarian eating places
Since the 1960s the number of vegetarian restaurants – some of which offer recipes for vegans or those with an allergy or diabetes – has grown in Brighton. One of the latest to open is Terre a Terre in Pool Valley.
