School photo c1962

Long photo split in to 3 – I had trouble scanning it and could not get it to stitch. I’m 4th on the right on the bottom row. I remember many of the faces and some of them have contributed to this this site – what memories!!

  • I think that is an old friend of mine, Richard Lawn, third in from right back row top picture.

  • John, I’m sure you’re correct, that is Richard Lawn, I knew him at Goldstone Junior.

I went to Brighton Grammar after Goldstone Junior, but another very good friend of mine from Goldstone, Jonathan Shaw, also went to the Secondary Tech, and I’m on this site because I was hoping to spot him in this 1962 photo – he and Richard would have been just starting in the fourth year in September 1962.  Unfortunately I can’t conclusively identify him – I haven’t seen him since we were twelve!  That might be him sixth from the left end of the middle photo, back row, or possibly it could be him first from the left end in the back row, same photo.  Can you help?

  • Thanks for uploading this photo, I have found myself and other classmates in the second row. Good to see all the old teachers again, brings back some memories.

  • It amazes me how long those teachers were there. I know that Downing was head in 1947 until 69. Chappel, Leal, Stockbridge, Kinley, Parfitt, Taylor and McNeff I can recognise and they were all there when I left in ’71.It must have been a job for life back then. Anyone name all the teachers left to right for clarity?
