This photograph was taken in 1953 at the Grant Street Coronation street party.

Nearly all the children photographed went to Finsbury Road school, then on to St Luke’s or Queen’s Park schools. I think that some of the younger children lived in Lincoln Street and Ewert Street.

  • Hi Mick your name rings a bell, but I think your a bit older than me. I did go to Finsbury Rd school, my first day there I got the strap for talking in assembly by the headmaster Mr Lynch then made to stand in the corner by the piano. Me and two mates set fire to the dustbins-  happy days LOL! My mates were Barry Groves and Cedric Newland ring any bells? Brian.

  • Hi Brian, is your sister Jose or Rosemary and did you live at the bottom of Southover Street? Pam Carpenter (then).

  • Hi Brian, I remember you, Barry and Cedric. Cedric had two brothers Cuff and Les and like Pam, I also remember you had a sister Rosemary. I’m in touch on Facebook with Pam and also Hazel South, Terry Longford, and Billy. Are you on Facebook? If so, send us a invite. Like to know what has happened to you all.

  • Hi, I went to Finsbury Road and how strict Lynch was. I have great memories of the school. I left in 1960 to start work. One of my mates was Mike Gravesmark – we both boxed for the school and Mr Wilson ran the boxing along with Mr Montgomery.

  • Hi, just found this page, my mum went to Finsbury road school back in the 1940’s her name was Maisie Johnson, from there she went to Elmgrove senior school. My grandparents were Bill and Ella Johnson who lived in Southampton street, I wonder if any one remembers them. I know of Brian Scooley, as his mum Rose was a great friend of the family. I have also heard of the Groves and Finemores but it would be nice to hear from any one else who remembers my family.
